Manchester United: Barcelona issue update on Luis Suarez injury ahead of Champions League clash

Barcelona have eased fears over Luis Suarez missing their Champions League tie against Manchester United after the striker sprained his ankle in the Catalan’s 4-1 win over Real Betis on Sunday.

The Uruguayan produced a masterful performance against the Andalusian side, weaving between a number of Betis defenders to score his 18th league goal of the season, as well as teeing up Messi with an inch-perfect backheel.

But, in the closing moments of the game, after Messi completed a sublime hat-trick, there was concern as Suarez suffered a knock to his right ankle.

However, Barcelona have now confirmed that the 32-year-old should be fit to face Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side after undergoing examinations on the injury this morning.

“Tests carried out on Monday morning have confirmed that first team player Luis Suárez has a sprained right ankle,” Barcelona said in a statement on their website.

“He will be out for 10-15 days and now undertake his recovery with the FC Barcelona medical team, having been withdrawn from the Uruguayan national team squad.”

Ernesto Valverde’s side travel to Manchester for the first leg on April 10 with Ousmane Dembele already ruled out after tearing his hamstring in Barcelona’s 5-1 second-leg victory over Lyon in the Champions League round of 16.
