Manchester United loanee Dean Henderson reacts to mistake vs Liverpool FC

Dean Henderson has vowed to 'come back stronger' after his howler gifted Liverpool victory at Sheffield United.

Manchester United loanee Henderson let Georginio Wijnaldum's straight shot slip through his hands and go in between his legs to secure a vital 1-0 win for the Premier League leaders at Bramall Lane on Saturday.

Henderson, 22, committed a clanger on loan at Sheffield United last season in their home defeat to Leeds and also let in a similar goal to Wijnaldum's on England Under-21 duty at the European Championship in June.

The Football Association technical director Les Read despaired at the 'arrogance' of an unnamed England U21 player after they were ejected at the group stage and suggested some players were distracted by contract negotiations. Henderson went into the tournament uncertain of his United future but penned a new deal in late July before he rejoined Sheffield United on loan.

Henderson could at least be consoled by another error-strewn performance by England number one Jordan Pickford in Everton's Saturday night reverse to Manchester City ahead of the England squad announcement on Thursday.

On his Instagram page, Henderson said: "Got my head held high. Can’t wait to get back out there!! I always come back stronger, thanks for your support Bladesmen."

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder was scathing in his assessment of Henderson's performance, though. "If he wants to be a professional footballer, these things are going to happen.

"But if he wants to play for the top teams, if he wants to play for England then he needs to do better, he needs to concentrate more.

"It’s a disappointing day for him. I am not going to put my arms around him. Simply, he needs to do better."
