Manchester United loan move for Nathan Bishop explained

Mansfield manager Nigel Clough has claimed that new Manchester United loanee Nathan Bishop is "the best we can get" after the move was officially announced.

Bishop, 21, will join the Stags on loan for the entirety of the 2021/22 League Two season, but will first spend the pre-season period with Manchester United 's first-team squad as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to prepare his side for the upcoming Premier League campaign.

With several stars away for Euro 2020, Bishop will provide competition and added numbers in training this summer before leaving for more regular first-team football after spending a year-and-a-half at Old Trafford gaining experience on the training pitch.

Mansfield manager Nigel Clough has spoken to the club's official website to declare his delight at the signing and believes that he will be a top addition to the club's first-team squad.

"Nathan is a promising young goalkeeper with good experience in League One with Southend.

“For a young goalkeeper, to get those 30 games in League One was great for him.

“He showed a degree of maturity in that time, which will have hopefully improved further in the past 12 months.

“Although he hasn’t played too much in the past year, he has trained with Manchester United’s first team every day, which is the next best thing to playing matches.

“You cannot fail to improve in that environment with United’s coaches and playing staff. He is the best we can get in this position.”
