Manchester United are the latest heavyweight club to be linked with a surprise move for Ireland midfielder Jeff Hendrick.
The 28-year-old is weighing up his options after opting not to extend his four-year stay at Burnley and Football Insider reports that United are considering snapping him up.
The report claims that Hendrick's versatility has attracted interest from Old Trafford.
Roma and AC Milan have also been linked with moves for the Dubliner - who has won 54 caps for Ireland since making his international debut in 2013.
New Ireland boss Stephen Kenny was recently asked his opinion on the speculation linking Hendrick with a surprise move to the Italian Serie A.
Hendrick made his name with Derby County as a central midfielder but has increasingly been used as a right-midfielder for club and country in recent years, something which Kenny noted.
But Kenny reckons Hendrick relishes playing in the centre of the park - possibly hinting at where he will be deployed going forward at international level.
He said: “I’ve got an open mind about that, definitely. I think with Jeff, he has been playing wide on the right all season. He probably views himself as a central midfield player.
“I’m not sure what his situation is, he’s finished with Burnley. Maybe it would have been clearer in a non-Covid environment, that’s probably made it more complicated.
"He’s a very, very good player and I’m sure he will have plenty of options."
