Manchester United have named Donny van de Beek in a Premier League starting 11 for the first time since his summer transfer from Ajax.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made two changes from the side that beat Istanbul Basaksehir 4-1 in midweek, as Nemanja Matic and Mason Greenwood come into the side and Edinson Cavani drops to the bench.
There is no Anthony Martial in the United matchday squad, due to illness. Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay are both unavailable due to injury issues, with Luke Shaw and Eric Bailly missing too.
United face an in-form Saints side who have been flying high in the Premier League table this season and it's no surprise that Solskjaer has picked Matic and Fred to anchor his midfield, with Van de Beek in a more advanced role.
Before the game, Solskjaer lauded the improvement of his captain Maguire and the team as a whole since the November international break. United are looking to make it three wins from three in the past week or so.
“He’s probably never looked back since the international break because he is improving, getting better and better, as the rest of the team is," Solskjaer said. “We have had conversations of course, but Harry is a very sensible and intelligent man.
“He is his own harshest critic as well, he’s a leader and he’s never been afraid of fronting the team or standing up there when things go against him.”
