Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney reveals Louis van Gaal reaction to Phil Bardsley boxing video

Wayne Rooney has revealed how Louis van Gaal laughed hysterically when he found out about the Manchester United legend's infamous boxing video with Phil Bardsley.

The video emerged online in 2015 and showed then-England captain Rooney boxing with close friend Bardsley at his home in Cheshire.

During the clip Bardsley catches Rooney with a punch and knocks the United legend to the floor while onlookers can be heard laughing in the background.

Rooney responded to the incident in comic fashion when he celebrated against Tottenham in the following weeks by pretending to get knocked out as a celebration on the Old Trafford pitch.

However, the 33-year-old has now finally spoken about the incident and revealed how Dutch icon Van Gaal reacted when he was informed of the incident.

Speaking on Eddie Hearn’s podcast No Passion No Point, Rooney said:  “When it was coming out, I went to see van Gaal. I said ‘this story’s coming out about me and Phil Bardsley fighting in the house’.

“And he p***ed himself laughing. He found it hilarious."

Thankfully for Rooney the video was well received by his former manager, and now the England great has explained how the incident even came about, and that it didn't actually tell the full story.

He added: "On the night with Bardo, we’d been out. After that, we went home and put on the gloves on.

"We do it quite regularly. We’ve done worse but that got out.

"The video stops when I get knocked down – but I actually get up and we carry on fighting.

"When we finished, the two of us were just sat there.  My nose had gone and Bardo’s got blood pouring out of his mouth."
