Manchester United icon Wayne Rooney believes that his international career with England would have been far more successful if they had someone like Man City manager Pep Guardiola at the helm.
Rooney retired from the international stage with a record of 53 goals for the Three Lions, surpassing the previous record of 49 held by Sir Bobby Charlton for 45 years.
However, despite winning everything he could possibly get his hands on during his time at Old Trafford, international silverware did not find its way into Rooney's hands and the so-called 'Golden Generation' failed to deliver.
A lot of questions have been raised as to why a side that included the likes of Rio Ferdinand, David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Michael Owen failed to win anything - and Rooney has a theory.
Rooney played under six different managers during his England career, including Sven-Goran Eriksson, Fabio Capello and Roy Hodgson, but none were able to deliver the glory that England have been waiting for since 1966.
Had City boss Pep Guardiola been in charge of the 'Golden Generation' though, Rooney believes that the outcome would have been different and that the Three Lions would be on top of the world.
"You look at our team 10 years ago and arguably we had the best group of players in world football," he told the Wayne Rooney Podcast.
"Rio Ferdinand, John Terry, Ashley Cole, Gerrard, [Paul] Scholes, Lampard, Beckham, myself, Michael Owen - our team then, if we had a Guardiola with that group of players, we'd have won everything, no doubt about it."
