Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney makes Man City and Liverpool FC Premier League title prediction

Manchester United's all time record goal scorer Wayne Rooney has predicted that arch rivals Liverpool will win the Premier League ahead of Man City this year.

Following on from last season's epic title race which saw an unprecedented level of quality and consistency, as City won the title by a single point on the final day, the two sides have picked up where they left off.

City and Liverpool are clearly a cut above the rest in the league and are already in a slug fest for the title when any slip up could prove costly.

City have done just that on two occasions already, after drawing with Tottenham and losing to newly promoted Norwich City and find themselves eight points behind a Liverpool side who still have a 100 per cent record.

There's a long, long way to go before the champions are crowned in the spring but Rooney believes Liverpool will finally lift the Premier League trophy for the first time this season.

"In my opinion, Liverpool look the strongest,” Rooney told IFL TV, via HITC .

"City are a fantastic team.

"I think Liverpool have improved on last year, whereas City have stayed at that level of great consistency, so I think Liverpool."

It's testament to how good Liverpool are playing if a boy-hood Everton fan and a United legend reckons they'll clinch the title.
