Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson can offer touchline advice, says Accies boss Brian Rice

Brian Rice joked that he'd call former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson for tips on how to watch from the stand.

The Hamilton boss is banned from the dugout for Accies' next two games against St Mirren and Ross County following a Scottish Football disciplinary hearing earlier this week.

Although Rice repeatedly refused to comment on the specific SFA charge, the 57 year-old boss joked he'd ask for advice from the legendary Scottish manager.

He said: "Alex Ferguson used to watch the games from the stand at Manchester United, the dugouts are up in the stand. I'll maybe phone him and ask him.

"The boys will be well prepared as they're every week. They will know their jobs, know what to do and once the game starts, it's up to them on the pitch anyway.

"They are the decision makers on the pitch, not me."

Lewis Smith returned from injury against Motherwell (SNS Group)

Hamilton have struggled with injuries all season but they were boosted by the return from injury of attacking duo Lewis Smith and Nathan Thomas against Motherwell.

Although both players have benefited from more time on the training pitch, Rice concedes they still lack match sharpness in the absence of game time.

He said: "It's obviously helped them being involved in training but you can't replicate game situations.

"You can't replicate games and the benefit you get from playing games but they've not been able to do that.

Nathan Thomas also returned in the Lanarkshire derby defeat against Motherwell (SNS Group)

"I think Lewis got 27 or 28 minutes and Nathan got 15 minutes and that's all they were capable of giving us, maximum.

"They will be there if needed to come off the bench but we are limited in what we can do with them. There are no games that we can play them in - that's just the situation that we are in."
