Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs impressed by Liverpool starlet Neco Williams as speculation dismissed

Wales boss Ryan Giggs has said he's been 'hugely impressed' with the progress made by Liverpool youngster Neco Williams.

The right-back was called up to the Welsh national team for the first time earlier this week having featured extensively at youth level.

Giggs has also dismissed speculation which had suggested Williams, who won a Premier League title with Liverpool last term, could switch allegiances to play for England.

The ex-Manchester United star said: "I did see the speculation that he could play for England.

"From speaking to Neco, I think he's the most-capped Under-19s player for Wales.

"He's come through the system, every time I've spoken and communicated with him he's keen to play for Wales. I never saw any problems.

"I did see the speculation that he could play for England but it's never cropped up in our conversations. I'm looking forward to working with him."

Giggs also admitted how impressed he has been with Liverpool's rising star as well as Swansea's Ben Cabango who has also been selected.

"I've been hugely impressed with both of them," he added.

"Obviously Neco is at a huge club in Liverpool and is getting plenty of game time, especially towards the end of last season.

"He's been really impressive in taking his chance. He's an exciting prospect."

The 19-year-old could win his first caps for Wales as they face Finland and Bulgaria next month.
