Manchester United legend reveals what fans need to understand about Paul Pogba

Manchester United legend Denis Irwin has explained that fans 'have to understand that' Paul Pogba is more likely to give the ball away due to the creative risks he takes.

Despite a turbulent summer in which Pogba was linked with a move to Real Madrid for the entire transfer window, he has started the season as United player and got off to a decent start.

Much like the rest of the team, the Frenchman played brilliantly in the opening weekend thrashing of Chelsea, registering two assists, but he has since failed to contribute to another goal as United go three games without a win.

Pogba came in for particular criticism for his performance in last weekend's 1-1 draw with Southampton, in which he gave the ball away on several occasions in midfield.

However, iconic left-back Irwin believes that fans need to understand that Pogba will likely give the ball away more because of his desire to be creative and that he is a 'vitally important' player for the team.

"He's going to be a big, big player for us. He really is," the Irishman told Sky Sports.

"He's the one that can unlock doors, can see passes and sometimes when you take risks you're obviously going to give the ball away a lot more and people are going to have to understand that.

"But he's a risk taker he's the one that's going to create going forward and he's going to be a huge player for us.

"We've had a few games this year where weve had a lot of possesion, we've created enough chances to win games - I'd still like us to create more chances when we've got that much possession - and he's going to be vitally important for us."

Pogba was set to represent France during the international break in their EURO 2020 qualifiers against Turkey and Andorra but had to withdraw due to an injured ankle.
