Manchester United legend Paul Scholes pinpoints moment Liverpool 'lost' the Premier League to Man City

Man City and Liverpool are still slugging it out at the top of the Premier League table at an unprecedented level of quality but Paul Scholes believes that the 0-0 draw with Manchester United in February could be what costs Liverpool the league.

Jurgen Klopp's side at one stage held a seven point lead over City, which was shortened to four after City won the crucial fixture between the sides at the start of the year.

Liverpool's lead did remain healthy, however, until a run of four draws in six games surrendered the advantage after Liverpool failed to capitalise on City's shock defeat to Newcastle.

The 0-0 at Old Trafford was one of those draws and Scholes believes it's a game that Liverpool had to win, and not doing so may have cost them their first ever Premier League title.

"When you look back, Liverpool's biggest mistake was not beating United at Old Trafford, when you see how many players United had missing," the United legend told the Premier League.

"I think they got three injuries [in that match]. Jesse Lingard came on and pulled his hamstring.

"Liverpool were really poor that day. You saw the difference the other night when City came to Old Trafford and were dominant and looked a really top team.

"Liverpool could have lost it at Old Trafford."
