Manchester United legend Patrice Evra makes non-league return with Brentham

Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra made a surprise comeback on Saturday when he played for non-league side minnows Brentham FC.

The 39-year-old retired in July of 2019 having made his final appearance for West Ham the season year prior.

It didn't take the former France defender long to lace up his boots once more, however, playing for the Middlesex County League side as they lost 3-2 to North Greenford United.

Evra was playing to build up his match fitness ahead of this year's Soccer Aid match, which takes place on Sunday, September 6.

A video went viral online showing Evra taking a throw on, before providing a reminder of his quality with a cheeky flick to his team-mate.

A Brentham FC spokesman posted wrote on Twitter: "It was a real privilege to have Evra train and play for us.

"He needed some minutes ahead of the Soccer Aid charity match for UNICEF taking place at Manchester United Old Trafford next month."

The legendary defender enjoyed a highly successful career in England and beyond, winning five Premier League titles and the Champions League during his eight-year stay at United.

Evra left United for Juventus in 2014, recently revealing that he felt "betrayed" by vice-chairman Ed Woodward at the time.

The defender's extensive trophy list continued to build with Juventus, however, where he won three Serie A titles, alongside two Italian Cups and an Italian Super Cup.

Evra then returned to France with Marseille, before he finished his career with Premier League side West Ham.
