Manchester United legend Patrice Evra hits out at Jamie Carragher over Cristiano Ronaldo comments

Patrice Evra has hit out at Jamie Carragher over his comments about Cristiano Ronaldo on what was another memorable night for the Manchester United star.

Ronaldo took his career tally to 801 goals as his double helped United to a 3-2 win over Arsenal, with Bruno Fernandes also on the scoresheet at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo’s place in the side has come under increasing scrutiny amid the arrival of Ralf Rangnick as interim manager, with some arguing he may not suit the German’s high pressing style.

Rangnick was in the crowd to see the Portuguese star strike for the 11th and 12th time this season for United ahead of him officially taking charge of the side.

Ronaldo’s position was a big talking point when Carragher clashed with former United captain Roy Keane on Sunday, after the 36-year-old had been named on the bench by Michael Carrick against Chelsea.

The former Liverpool defender argued with Keane about why United had brought Ronaldo back to the club unless he was going to lead them to winning titles immediately.

And Evra, who was at Old Trafford to watch the win over Arsenal as part of Amazon Prime Video’s coverage, hit back at Carragher in turn.

“There’s a lot of talk about this player, and I already don’t understand it.

“Some players like Jamie Carragher, he had I think 775 games, Cristiano today scored 801 goals, and those kind of people talk about Cristiano.

“Sometimes I think people just have to stay in their line, and I just don’t understand that hate.

“Some people just wake up and want to talk about Cristiano.”
