Manchester United legend Edwin van der Sar 'under control' after suffering brain haemorrhage

Edwin van der Sar's agent has said the former Manchester United goalkeeper is "under control" after suffering a brain haemorrhage last week.

Ajax announced last Friday that Van der Sar had been taken into intensive care, with reports in the Netherlands revealing that he had suffered a brain haemorrhage while on holiday in Croatia.

Ajax also confirmed that their former chief executive was in a stable condition in intensive care, with United sending a message of support to the Dutchman and his family.

On Saturday, Ajax released an update on behalf of Van der Sar's wife, Annemarie, with the former shot-stopper's condition described as stable but still concerning. And now his agent, Rob Jansen, has provided a fresh update.

"Of course things are not going well," he told the KieftJansenEgmondGijp podcast (via Voetbal International). "But not good and good. That's what it's called under control.

"You have to protect the family in this. He's in good hands. Annemarie is there with her son. There is continuous contact from the Netherlands about how to proceed.

"He needs to rest very well. We are confident that this will work out, but it is not small. A brain haemorrhage is very serious. She (Annemarie) had it herself in 2009. She recognises a lot of what happened to her then."

Van der Sar spent six years at United, registering 266 appearances and winning multiple major honours including four Premier League titles and the Champions League.
