Manchester United legend Edwin van der Sar sends message to Antony on leaving Ajax

Manchester United ended the transfer window by bringing in winger Antony for £85m on deadline day. It was an expensive outlay but the player was Erik ten Hag's top attacking target throughout the summer window.

The process however was not an easy one. Ajax did not want to sell the Brazillian after parting ways with Ryan Gravenberch, Noussair Mazraoui, Sebastian Haller and Lisandro Martinez this summer, with the latter moving to Old Trafford earlier in the window to join former manager Ten Hag.

However, the player proceeded to go on strike, missing training and matches in order to secure the move. His actions alongside the money involved seemed to convince the Dutch club to part ways with Antony and quickly move to secure a replacement.

But despite the circumstances in which Antony left Amsterdam, the club do not seem to harbour any ill feelings. Former United goalkeeper and current Ajax CEO Edwin van der Sar has posted a farewell to the 22-year-old on his own Twitter account.

Quote tweeting the club's official goodbye, the Dutchman said: "Thanks for the memories and showing your joy for football in our Ajax shirt, Antony. We enjoyed it, now it’s time to entertain Manchester. All the best there alongside Erik, Donny and Licha!"

It has been confirmed by the club that Antony will wear the number 21 shirt at Old Trafford and could make his debut against Arsenal on Sunday.
