Manchester United legend Andy Cole spotted filming at Gedling Country Park

Former footballer Andy Cole has been spotted filming at Gedling Country Park.

The ex-Manchester and Newcastle United star striker was seen at the park on Wednesday, May 12.

Lincoln Cole, Andy’s father, worked as a miner at Gedling Colliery before his son became a footballer, Chronicle Live reports.

Lincoln emigrated to the UK from Jamaica in 1957 and worked as a coal miner in Gedling from 1965 to 1987.

Andy was born in 1971 and went on to have an extremely successful footballing career, winning the European Cup and Premier League amongst other honours during his time on the pitch.

He also starred for Nottingham Forest in 2008, playing a handful of games for the club.

A picture taken on Wednesday, May 12, shows Andy appearing to carry out an interview on a bench at the popular park.

Lincoln Cole's portrait is featured at Woodhorn Museum in Northumberland as part of an exhibition celebrating black miners in the UK.

In a recent interview, Andy, 49, said: "My father was very quiet. He came here from the Caribbean in the 1950s. He was hard-working, trying to raise his family to the best of his capabilities."

In 2016, Lincoln, then 84, remembered the camaraderie of working underground. "It was scary and rough", he recalled.

"But there was somebody there to give you a helping hand."

A spokesperson for Gedling Borough Council says the authority is aware filming is taking place at the park and has granted permission for crews to do so in advance.

An eyewitness, who met Andy Cole at the scene, said he was "very friendly".
