Manchester United 'learning from Liverpool FC's transfer strategy' and more transfer rumours

Manchester United won't be dragged into making a big money panic signing in January after learning from Liverpool's approach to signing Virgil van Dijk, according to reports.

United have had a dreadful start of the season and are currently slumped down in 12th place in the Premier League after a month of terrible results was topped off with a meek defeat to Newcastle.

One of the big reasons why United are doing so poorly is because they're struggling to make clear cut chances, let alone stick the ball in the back of the net and as a result have been touted to use the January transfer market to reinforce their attacking options.

Strikers such as Moussa Dembele, Mario Mandzukic and Erling Braut Haaland have been heavily touted as well as the likes of Christian Eriksen and Kai Havertz.

But United have had bad luck in the January market in recent time and, according to the Daily Mail, they 'would prefer to wait until the summer to make big signings having had their fingers burned on Alexis Sanchez in January 2018.'

It's reported that United 'have learned how Liverpool waited six months  to sign Virgil van Dijk rather than splash their money on an inferior player in the interim to help a leaky defence' and are 'reluctant to rip up their plans and change targets in January as a knee-jerk reaction.'

The report mentions United's supposed interest in Demeble but claims they are 'prepared to wait to sign him rather than pay the French club's asking price of £71million which would smack of a panic buy.'

Meanwhile, AC Milan are considering making an offer to Juan Mata, according to reports in Italy.

Calciomercatonews  say Milan eye Mata for his experience, and feel he could be tempted to move to the San Siro as he struggles for game time at United.

Finally Sport claim United and Inter have enquired about Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic.

The Croatian, 31, has only started once for Barca this season, and the report says he would be available for £35m.
