Manchester United 'keeping a close eye' on PSG's Edinson Cavani and more transfer rumours

Manchester United are keeping a close eye on Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani as his contract is set to expire this summer, according to reports.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that United remain in internal discussions on transfer targets despite the suspension of football and M.E.N. Sport understands that a winger, playmaker and centre-midfielder are the priorities for the next window.

However, United have also been linked with several strikers after they opted against signing Erling Braut Haaland in January and brought in Odion Ighalo on a short-term loan instead, and may look to reinforce their front-line.

Despite his age and recent injury problems, Cavani remains one of the world's most lethal finishers and could be an interesting prospect on a free transfer.

According to L'Equipe, via SportWitness, United are keeping tabs on the 33-year-old's situation with the view of making an offer this summer.

However, it's reported that the lack of Champions League football may be an obstacle if United fail to qualify and that Cavani is open to staying in Paris and waiting to see if he will be offered a new deal, a scenario now more likely due to the financial uncertainty surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.

Meanwhile, Cavani isn't the only PSG player available for a free this summer and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly leading United in the race to sign right-back Thomas Meunier, according to The Sun.

Its report claims that the 28-year-old is on the radar of numerous Premier League clubs as his contract is up for expiry this summer.

United and Arsenal were linked with a move last summer, but Solskjaer’s side sealed a move for Aaron Wan-Bissaka instead, which makes a move for another right-back seem unlikely.
