Manchester United keen on Rodriguez move, Chelsea in Coutinho talks - Premier League rumours

It is now over a month since a ball was last kicked in the Premier League and we are not expecting one to be kicked again any time soon.

The 2019/20 Premier League campaign was suspended “indefinitely” last week, with the Premier League confirming that fixtures would only resume when it is safe to do so.

That means that on-field action is going to be denied the opportunity to write the headlines over the coming weeks, paving the way for transfer gossip and speculation to take centre stage.

And with that in mind, here is a round-up of the day’s very latest transfer gossip from across the Premier League.

Manchester United to rival Napoli for Madrid star

Manchester United are set to go toe-to-toe with Italian club Napoli in the race to sign Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez this summer, according to a report by AS .

The attacking midfielder, who will always be remembered for lighting up to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil for Colombia, has fallen out-of-favour in the Spanish capital and is almost certain to be allowed to leave this summer.

This season, the midfielder, who has recently been linked with a move to both Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers, has been restricted to a paltry seven La Liga appearances.

Now, though, United have joined the race for the 28-year-old, as have Napoli, meaning they could battle it out between them this season to land the former Bayern Munich loanee.

Chelsea in Coutinho talks

Chelsea are locked in talks with Barcelona about the possibility of signing midfielder Philippe Coutinho on loan this summer, report Sport .

The Brazilian international, who swapped Liverpool for Barcelona for a fee north of £100m in January 2018, has struggled to have much of an impact in La Liga, so much so that he has spent this season on loan in Germany at Bayern Munich.

Though the former Inter Milan star has been playing on a regular basis for the German giants, Bayern are not expected to activate the option to buy him on a permanent basis.

However, Chelsea are keen on bringing the 27-year-old back to the Premier League in order to give him the opportunity to resurrect his career.

Inter keen on Wijnaldum move

Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum is the subject of interest from Italian club Inter Milan, according to a report by Tutto Mercato .

The Dutchman, who has played a key role in Liverpool’s surge towards the Premier League title this season, is out-of-contract at Anfield in the summer of 2021.

It is claimed that the Serie A side would be willing to pay around £30m to lure the former Newcastle United man to the San Siro.

It is reported that Liverpool are in discussions with Wijnaldum over a new deal but may be forced to sell him if they cannot reach an agreement over a new deal before next summer.
