Manchester United: Jamie Carragher reveals what Red Devils should do next in wake of Mauricio Pochettino sacking

Jamie Carragher insists Manchester United would “not be doing their job properly” if they were not staying in touch with Mauricio Pochettino and the developments on his future.

The Argentine was sacked by Tottenham Hotspur last week and has long been linked with the job at Old Trafford.

With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer under pressure, having won just four Premier League matches all season, Carragher believes United should be reaching out to the former Spurs boss.

“There’s no doubt Pochettino was the one they originally wanted and Solskjaer did so well, they had to give him the job. He should be allowed to, in January, get what he needs,” Carragher said on MNF.

“But at the top of Manchester United, I don’t think they will be doing this right now, but if they get to January – this is Manchester United, they’ve won one game away from home in 11 since March.

“And there’s a guy like Pochettino who thinks he could take the club forward – they would not be doing their job properly if they weren’t in contact with him.

“Let’s not forget, Manchester United were the big spenders in the summer. It always seems to go back to spending more money. The money they’ve spent since Sir Alex Ferguson left is astronomical, and where’s it got them?”
