Manchester United issue Victor Lindelof injury update ahead of Aston Villa fixture

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits he is still unsure whether or not Victor Lindelof will be fit for Manchester United's trip to face Aston Villa on Thursday.

The Sweden international was taken off at half-time of United's 5-2 win over Bournemouth on Saturday with a back injury, casting doubts over his availability for the trip to Villa Park.

United manager Solskjaer has named an unchanged side in his last three Premier League matches but could be forced into a change if Lindelof has not recovered in time.

Lindelof scored his second United goal when the two sides met earlier in the season at Old Trafford, and although Solskjaer says the injury isn't serious the central defender still has to be considered a doubt.

“Not yet, no," Solskjaer replied when asked if they had made a decision on Lindelof by club media. "It’s not too bad. He’ll play soon.

“I’m not sure if he’ll manage the Villa game, but he might do.”

Eric Bailly would be the obvious replacement for Lindelof if he does not recover in time, while Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones both remain sidelined with their own injuries.

Teden Mengi is the only other recognised central defender in the senior squad, although the youth-team captain is yet to make his professional debut yet.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Luke Shaw are both other candidates to fill in at centre-back if Lindelof is not fit enough to feature on Thursday night.
