Manchester United issue Victor Lindelof fitness update ahead of Man City fixture

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed Manchester United have a 'very strong squad' available for their semi-final clash against Man City in the Carabao Cup.

United are just one win away from a Wembley showpiece against Tottenham Hotspur as they prepare to face their fierce local rivals in a single-legged tie on Wednesday night.

Edinson Cavani will miss the game through suspension after admitting a charge for a breach of FA Rule E3 for his social media post after scoring against Southampton, while defender Phil Jones remains sidelined through injury.

However, they are the only two absentees for the match with defender Victor Lindelof back in training and available for selection to face City.

“Yeah, they’re bright," Solskjaer told club media on Tuesday.

"They had a couple of days of recovery, not recovery, but [it’s been] lighter. We’ve had a couple of days to prepare.

"Of course, the training is just after we’re talking, so we haven’t had the training this morning. Victor [Lindelof] has been training, he's been with us. Edinson [Cavani] is suspended.

"Apart from that we have a very strong squad to choose from.”

Lindelof deputised at right-back against Leicester City on Boxing Day but was forced off in the second-half due to his chronic back injury.

Eric Bailly has excelled in his absence starting the last four matches and it remains to be seen which defender will get the nod against City on Wednesday night.
