Manchester United issue mixed injury update ahead of Chelsea fixture

Manchester United expect to have Donny van de Beek back for their trip to face Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, but Scott McTominay will miss out.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided an additional injury update ahead of the trip to Stamford Bridge this weekend with mixed emotions for United fans.

Van de Beek is set to return having missed the last three matches but McTominay will not be making the trip to London.

Solskjaer has also hinted that Edinson Cavani will miss the match while Daniel James will undergo a late fitness test ahead of the match.

“Donny trained today and he felt okay after training so hopefully [there is] no reaction,” Solskjaer told club media. “So he should be with us. It was just a tweak [for Dan]. I need to give him until Saturday or even Sunday so, hopefully, he can shake it off, but I’m not sure.

“They [Pogba and McTominay] are out. They’ve not trained, Edinson hasn’t trained yet, so I wouldn’t be too optimistic about that, but miracles can happen.”

Van de Beek and Cavani have been sidelined with muscular injuries for the last three games and McTominay sustained an impact injury in the 4-0 first leg thrashing of Sociedad last week.

United are also set to be without veteran midfielder Juan Mata for two weeks through injury.
