Manchester United will make a decision on whether Marcus Rashford has surgery on a persistent shoulder injury in the next few days.
The forward has been playing through the pain barrier having suffered a muscle tear last season and is keen to go under the knife to have it repaired, but Solskjaer has insisted the decision has to be best for Rashford and for the club.
United's pre-season plans are being disrupted by the delayed return of players from international tournaments, with the final cohort due back on Monday, while Anthony Martial is yet to train with the group this summer having been absent since March with a knee injury.
Rashford played for England during the European Championship, appearing five times as a substitute, but he had a disappointing end to last season and now wants to have surgery to fix his shoulder issue, which would rule him out for at least a couple of months
"With Marcus, we'll probably make a decision in next few days when we check him up, the last decision-making, what's best for him and best for the club has to be considered," said Solskjaer.
United will have a squad back in training on Monday, less than two weeks before the season begins against Leeds United on August 14, and Solskjaer is unclear how the fitness levels of those players will be.
"For the boys who've not come back yet, I've not got a Scooby-Doo how they are fitness-wise, everyone's due in for training Monday, then it's three weeks since their last game, Fred in the Copa America and the English finalists, so we'll see how they are because it's down to them what they've done during the holidays as well," said Solskjaer.
