Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he is feeling 'positive' that David de Gea will sign a new deal at Manchester United.
The Spaniard has just one year remaining on his current deal at Old Trafford and speculation has surrounded his long-term future at the club.
Negotiations are currently under way to agree a new contract with De Gea and Solskjaer believes that talks are progressing in a positive manner as the club prepare for their first pre-season fixture.
United recently submitted an improved offer to the 28-year-old as talks continue regarding his future and the United manager believes that the two parties are close to coming to an agreement.
"David has had a summer where he's been negotiating and we hope we're gonna get it sorted," Solskjaer said.
"I'm positive, of course with David I've said many times how lucky I am and happy we are to have him in goal."
The United manager was speaking in Perth on Wednesday morning as he addressed the media for the first-time during the club's pre-season tour.
Solskjaer was also asked about the plans he has for Alexis Sanchez after the forward starred for Chile during the Copa America this summer, and the United manager gave a positive verdict on the former Arsenal forward.
Sanchez suffered an injury during the third-place play-off defeat against Argentina, but is expected to be back in contention once the club return from their tour of the Far East.
Solskjaer added: "I don't think Alexis injury was too bad, when he's due back three weeks over the last game. I would expect him to be fit to train straight away."
