Manchester United 'interested in Adrien Rabiot' to 'replace' Paul Pogba and more transfer gossip

Manchester United are 'interested' in Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot to 'replace Paul Pogba', according to reports.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to be given a significant budget to improve his squad for next season and midfield is an area that may need some major reinforcement.

Ander Herrera is expected to leave the club on a free transfer to PSG after failing to come to an agreement on a new deal at Old Trafford and rumours refuse to die down over Paul Pogba's future.

Real Madrid are being heavily linked with the Frenchman and he has made no secret of his admiration for the club or their manager, fellow countryman, Zinedine Zidane.

If they do both depart than United will be desperately short of depth and quality in the middle of the park and as a result French newspaper, L'Equipe, via Sport Witness, report that United are 'interested in Rabiot.'

The talented Rabiot has had a torrid season in Paris as he was frozen out of the squad after deciding to run his contract down and leave the club for a free at the end of the season.

The 24-year-old has made just 20 appearances this season and hasn't featured at all since December 5.

L'Equipe claim that United have paid 'attention' to Rabiot 'in the past' to replace Pogba but report that no offer has yet been made.

However, Rabiot is reportedly an attractive proposition as he wouldn't demand a transfer fee and free up money to be spent elsewhere in the squad.

Meanwhile, United are set to revive interest in Leicester City centre-back Harry Maguire, according to reports.

Defence is also an area in United's squad that may be improved and they have been chasing a new centre-back for a number of years, having been linked with the likes of Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly, Ajax's Matthijs de Ligt and Tottenham's Toby Alderwiereld.

Maguire is also a name that has repeatedly been touted and was a target for Jose Mourinho last summer, though United were 'priced out of a move.'

However, ESPN report that United are to 'renew their interest' in Maguire though any potential move would 'rely heavily on one of United's central defenders leaving Old Trafford.'

Maguire is contracted until 2023 and with the Foxes being notouriosuly stubborn negotiators it may still take a hefty price to sign the England international.
