Manchester United insider names Paul Pogba's biggest problem

Paul Pogba found the responsibility of being a "star signing" at Manchester United difficult to handle, according to former Old Trafford coach Emilio Alvarez.

The former United goalkeeping coach believes Pogba has been weighed down by the demands of fulfilling that role at the club he returned to from Juventus for £89million four years ago.

Pogba is yet to fulfill the expectations on him following his return to Old Trafford, but Alvarez, who left United in September last year, insists that's nothing to do with his talent, but is instead about learning to cope with the pressure on his shoulders.

The World Cup winner has been in good form since retruning to the United side from injury recently and he now looks set to stay at the club for at least one more season, having initially expressed a desire for a new challenge last summer.

That came amid links with Real Madrid, where Alvarez began his career as a young goalkeeper, and the former coach of David de Gea believes Pogba would be an ideal fit at the Bernabeu.

"I do know that he is a footballer with all the talent to play at any club in the world. Physically he is incredibly gifted," Alvarez told AS.

"Where he has problems is the area of the demands that come with being a star signing. At United, he was weighed down by the responsibility and the pressure of being a multi-million euro signing. He was anxious to show his level.

"I stayed with him after training and did extra work. I can tell you that he has incredible dexterity, talent and is incredible athletically.

"His success depends on his head. He needs to make challenges and to be more self-critical. He could be a great signing for Madrid."
