Manchester United injury update on Paul Pogba ahead of Newcastle United clash

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has offered an injury update on the fitness of Paul Pogba ahead of the clash at Newcastle Unite d.

The Magpies host United at St James' Park on Sunday afternoon and it appears as though Pogba's availability for the fixture is in doubt.

Pogba started on Monday for the Red Devils against Arsenal in the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford but has been ruled out of the club's Europa League clash at AZ Alkmaar tomorrow.

Solskjaer has said that Pogba requires rest after suffering an ankle issue which has led to the France World Cup winner missing training and now the club's upcoming fixture in Holland.

“He needs further treatment and rest on his ankle. I probably wouldn’t risk him on astro turf anyway if he was available for this game. He needs a bit of a rest," Solskjaer told the Manchester Evening News .

Pogba has started five Premier League games for United this season and whilst he has not scored yet, he has provided two assists.

It remains to be seen whether the midfielder sits out the trip to Newcastle as well, but the omission from the squad to face AZ Alkmaar certainly puts his participation in doubt.
