Manchester United injury update: Noussair Mazraoui and Lisandro Martinez latest news and return dates

Manchester United have a relatively clean bill of health as they prepare to face fierce rivals Liverpool in a huge showdown at Anfield in the Premier League.

The Red Devils headed into the latest international break with some cautious optimism and momentum at long last under much-criticised head coach Ruben Amorim, who won his 50th game in charge against Sunderland 2-0 at Old Trafford thanks to first-half goals from the fit-again Mason Mount and Benjamin Sesko.

It was a third home victory in succession for United, who may fancy their chances on Merseyside of achieving back-to-back wins for the first time this season against a reeling Liverpool side who have lost three matches in a row across all competitions.

Amorim is helped by a lack of key absentees, with only two players currently on the sidelines, provided there are no fresh blows sustained during the final rounds of international games this week.

With that in mind, here is the latest Manchester United injury news and return dates.

Noussair Mazraoui

Versatile wing-back Noussair Mazraoui has only made three appearances for United so far this season and none since the 2-1 win over Chelsea at Old Trafford on September 20, replaced by summer signing Matheus Cunha midway through the second half.

He has sat out the following meetings with Brentford and Sunderland and was not named in the Morocco squad for matches against Bahrain and Congo due to an unspecified knock that Amorim confirmed would keep him out until after the international break.

There has been no further update from the United boss since then, so it could be that Mazraoui is fit to be involved against Liverpool if he has experienced no further setbacks.

Potential return date: Sunday October 19, vs Liverpool (A)

Lisandro Martinez

United have been without tough-tackling centre-back Lisandro Martinez since he underwent surgery on a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered against Crystal Palace back in February.

It was another cruel setback for the Argentine, who has suffered with persistent knee and foot problems since arriving in English football from Ajax in 2022.

Amorim revealed last month that Martinez had begun training out on the grass, though was expected to take a while to build up his fitness after so much time on the sidelines.

New reports claim that he will resume full first-team training at Carrington this week following a positive scan and hopes to return either against Brighton on October 25 or Nottingham Forest on November 1.

"It's really important,” Amorim said when asked about the mental impact of Martinez’s return.

“We miss a lot Licha [Martinez], especially in this moment, we miss his aggression in everything he does, we miss him.

“But he's always there in every meeting. In training, he sometimes finishes his and stays to watch the training. We need Licha in this team.”

Potential return date: Saturday October 25, vs Brighton (H)
