Manchester United injury update: Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount latest news and return dates

Manchester United battled to their first win of the season on Saturday, edging past Burnley 3-2 after Bruno Fernandes’ last-gasp penalty.

But it was not all good news for the Red Devils, as both Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount failed to complete the 90 minutes after picking up injuries.

Cunha went straight down the tunnel after pulling up off the ball with a hamstring issue, while Mount was taken off at half-time with little explanation as to why.

There was one team news positive, though, as Noussair Mazraoui returned from injury to make a surprise appearance on the bench, even making a late cameo in place of Leny Yoro to help see out the result.

Here’s all the latest Man United injury news...

Mason Mount

Mason Mount was withdrawn at half-time as United beat Burnley, and it is not yet clear what his injury was.

He had impressed going forward before being replaced by Kobbie Mainoo.

Speaking at full-time, Ruben Amorim said of his injury: “We will check them (Mount and Cunha). We need those guys really bad to be really competitive.”

He added, though, that Mount played half an hour while injured, and that his substitution was precautionary: “With Mount I was not risking another player."

Mount has suffered with injury throughout his spell at Old Trafford, and seems set for another spell in the physios’ room.

Potential return date: Unknown

Matheus Cunha

Matheus Cunha suffered a hamstring injury in the first half of Saturday’s Burnley win, and headed straight down the tunnel after being treated.

It looked a nasty incident as he pulled up on his own after sprinting after a loose ball.

Speaking after the match, Ruben Amorim said he did not know the extent of the player’s injury, and that checks would come in the week: “We will check them (Mount and Cunha). We need those guys really bad to be really competitive.”

Potential return date: Unknown

Lisandro Martinez

The Argentine is Man United’s sole long-term absentee as he is recovering from the ACL injury he suffered against Crystal Palace in February.

Although he has stepped up his rehabilitation, it is unlikely he will be available for selection before the autumn.

Potential return date: Unknown
