Manchester United injury update: Mason Mount, Matheus Cunha and Diogo Dalot latest news and return dates

Manchester United have a less than a week to mull over their second Premier League loss of the season.

After beating Burnley before the international break, Man Utd were brought back down to earth with a bump as they were convincingly beaten 3-0 in the Manchester derby on Sunday.

Phil Foden's header and a brace from Erling Haaland ensured Manchester City got back on track and left the Red Devils sitting in the bottom half of the Premier League table after four games played.

Already out of the Carabao Cup and with no European football this season, Ruben Amorim's side don’t have an immediate chance to bounce back from the loss, instead they must wait until Saturday before welcoming Chelsea to Old Trafford.

Perhaps the one positive is the gap in between fixtures will allow for some key players who missed the trip to the Etihad Stadium to be available for selection against the Blues.

That said, here’s a look at the latest on the Manchester United injuries...

Matheus Cunha

Matheus Cunha was replaced in the first half against Burnley with a hamstring injury.

Ruben Amorim said afterwards that he did not know how serious the injury was, but confirmed United's summer signing would not feature against Man City.

However, it would appear the Brazilian should not be sidelined for too long amid Amorim's interesting update.

"If you talk with Cunha, if you catch Cunha outside, he will say he can play this game! So I don't know.

"We will manage day by day, but they are pushing hard and that is a good thing."

Mason Mount

Mount was another who suffered an injury in the win over Burnley before the international break.

The midfielder has endured many injury setbacks since joining Man United from Chelsea and is a major doubt to face his former club at the weekend.

Mount's injury remains unknown, as does its severity with Amorim refusing to put a timeline on his return.

"I think they are out for this game," Amorim said ahead of the Man City loss. "I don't know how long it is going to take.

"We need those players to be a very, very competitive team, but we have very good players that are eager to play, so we will be competitive on Sunday, but they are out, they cannot help us in this game."

Potential return date: Unknown

Diogo Dalot

Dalot was the third injury absentee for Man United in the derby after the defender withdrew from Portugal’s squad during recent international break with ‘muscle discomfort’.

Like the rest of United's injured stars, he travelled with the squad to the Etihad and watched on from the sidelines.

Whether the full-back will be available for the Chelsea game will be dependant on a return to training in the coming days.

Lisandro Martinez

There is more positive news as Martinez is edging closer to a return from his ACL injury.

The Argentine has been sidelined since February with the issue, but is now back training on the grass at Carrington.

Potential return date: Late 2025
