Manchester United injury round-up: Maguire, Shaw, Rashford and Amad latest

Manchester United welcome Villarreal to Old Trafford in the Champions League on Wednesday but Harry Maguire won't be available.

The United captain was replaced by Victor Lindelof with just over 20 minutes to play in the Reds' 1-0 defeat against Aston Villa at the weekend and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, speaking on Tuesday, gave an update on the seriousness of the centre-back's injury.

"Harry is more or less definitely out, it doesn’t look good. It's his calf, that might take a few weeks," Solskjaer revealed, however, it's not all bad news because Luke Shaw was also forced off against Aston Villa and yet the United boss sounded hopeful on his fitness.

"Luke has been in today so I’ll give him a chance to be involved, he didn’t train with the team," said Solskjaer.

That means Shaw has an outside chance of starting against Villarreal on Wednesday night, but if the England international is eventually deemed unfit ahead of that clash then the versatile Diogo Dalot will be capable of stepping in at left-back.

Regarding the remainder of United's current injury concerns, Marcus Rashford is understood to be ahead of schedule in his recovery from his shoulder operation and the forward could return for full training at Carrington as soon as next week.

Rashford is set for a consultation with the doctor on Friday and then the decision on his full return will be made.

Finally, Amad was pictured wearing United training gear this week as he bids to return from a thigh muscle injury that prevented him from joining Dutch side Feyenoord on loan this summer, although his return date is still thought to be multiple weeks away.

There is hope that Amad could start matches again by mid-October, though, and United fans will be eagerly awaiting his full return.
