Manchester United injury news and return dates ahead of Liverpool game

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a near-fully-fit Manchester United squad to choose from ahead of Sunday's game against Liverpool.

United have just two long-term injury absentees out of action, with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Juan Mata and Eric Bailly all returning to fitness recently to bolster Solskjaer's squad.

With a busy fixture schedule, it is likely that Solskjaer will be using his squad as much as possible.

The importance of Sunday's game against Liverpool is obvious, with United having the added bonus of handing another blow to their rivals' top-four hopes should they win.

A defeat will also hand the title to Man City.

Yet Solskjaer will no doubt have one eye on Thursday's Europa League semi-final second leg with Roma when picking his team to face Liverpool.

The Reds have a 6-2 lead from the first leg, which could allow Solskjaer some more room to manoeuvre when it comes to juggling his players.

With that in mind, here is the latest United injury news and prospective return dates.

Anthony Martial

After suffering a knee injury in the March international break, French forward Martial is likely out for the rest of the season.

The forward could well return to fitness in time for the European Championships in the summer but is unlikely to feature for United again this season.

What Solskjaer said: "Anthony has started his recovery and, if we see him before the end of the season, I will be very surprised, but, of course, he is determined to come back as quickly as he can."

Expected return date: Next season

Phil Jones

Jones has finally returned to the training pitch having not played since January 2020 due to a knee injury.

The versatile defender is working on his fitness and still faces a long road back until he is able to play competitively, meaning it is unclear whether he will feature at all this season.

What Solskjaer said: "Hopefully this season but if not then the start of next."

Expected return date: Next season
