Manchester United injury boost as Leeds' Kalvin Phillips makes Marcelo Bielsa admission

Here is your Leeds United morning digest on Sunday, December 20.

Leeds target profiled

Reports have emerged in the past week or so that Leeds are interested in signing Norwegian left-back Fredrik Andre Björkan.

The 22-year-old played 29 times for Bodø in their title-winning year of 2020, and with the Whites needing a new left-back, Leeds Live have profiled the defender.

Björkan is a mainstay in the Norwegian side's first-team and is now attracting plenty of interest from England. Bodø are in danger of losing a string of star players, with Jens Petter Hauge moving to AC Milan earlier this year, and Patrick Berg expected to leave as well, which could play on Björkan's mind when considering his potential suitors.

Man United handed injury boost

Manchester United could have Edinson Cavani back in their squad for their Premier League clash with Leeds this evening, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Cavani has missed games against RB Leipzig, Manchester City and Sheffield United due to a groin problem, but could feature against the Whites at Old Trafford.

The Uruguay striker has recently been hit with an FA charge for an allegedly racist social media post. The former PSG striker could still be hit with a ban in the near future, but was pictured training at United's Carrington base on Saturday.

Phillips was unsure about Bielsa plan

Leeds star Kalvin Phillips has admitted he was unsure whether Marcelo Bielsa's plan to turn him into a holding midfielder would be a successful one.

Phillips now plays his football in the deepest central midfield role and has excelled over the past two seasons due to his fantastic technical ability, but the 25-year-old wasn't too sure of Bielsa's plan at the start.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5Live, the Whites star said: "I was a little bit confused at first because the season before the manager came in and told me he wanted me to play in a more defensive position I'd scored a few goals and got a few assists. So I was a bit gutted to be honest.

"Obviously the manager coming in, the calibre of the guy he is, and how many people respect and rate him, he said to me in the first meeting that he wanted me to play in this position and I never really wanted to say no."
