Manchester United in hunt for German wonderkid Florian Wirtz and other transfer rumours

Manchester United are reportedly eyeing German wonder-kid Florian Wirtz, but face competition from a whole host of clubs.

The Bayer Leverkusen midfielder has become the latest youngster in Germany to become one of the most eye-catching players in the Bundesliga.

At just 18 years of age, he has been previously dubbed the 'next Kai Havertz' after following in the footsteps of the now-Chelsea playmaker.

He was announced on the 2021 Golden Boy shortlist but was pipped to the accolade by Barcelona midfielder Pedri, who became the first player from the Nou Camp to win the award since Lionel Messi.

As reported by the Daily Star, Liverpool, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are all in the hunt.

The records have continued to topple for the 18-year-old. He became the youngest player to play for Germany's U21s in October 2020, scoring the fastest goal in U21 European Championships history in June 2021, and then becoming the youngest player to play for the men's national team since 1945.

And for any club vying for his signature, they could have to shell out at least £70m for his signature. For the Reds, it is unlikely they will make a move in January for the attacking midfielder with the club prepared to move for a holding midfielder.

Meanwhile, United have reportedly earmarked Emiliano Martinez as one of their goalkeeping targets.

The Aston Villa shot-stopper has been instrumental in their defensive resurgence as he has become a steady figure between the sticks for the Villains.

He has gone from strength to strength since his Arsenal switch, establishing himself as Argentina number one in the process, winning the Copa America last summer.

According to the Daily Star, the Reds are looking to make a £50m swoop on the 'keeper.

Current number one, David de Gea, has two years remaining on his deal in Manchester with Dean Henderson looking for a move away after losing his spot in the starting XI.

Illan Meslier has also become a player of interest after scouts were sent to watch the Leeds United man in their defeat to Manchester City.
