Manchester United in crisis as 'oppressive' atmosphere accelerates fallen giant's plunge to rock bottom

The mood at a spiralling Manchester United is reportedly close to hitting rock bottom.

It's claimed the atmosphere around the ailing Premier League club's Carrington training base has been described as "oppressive" following a dire 1-0 defeat to Wolves on Monday.

As many as 11 of interim manager Ralf Rangnick's squad are believed to be searching for a way out of Old Trafford, including the likes of Edinson Cavani, Donny van de Beek, Anthony Martial, Dean Henderson, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata.

And the Daily Mail reports senior stars fear the situation is as bad as it's ever been during the nine years of struggle following Sir Alex Ferguson 's retirement.

United dispensed with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November and turned to former RB Leipzig boss Rangnick on a deal until the end of the season, with the plan being to make a long-term appointment come the summer.

But while the 63-year-old has lost only one of six games in charge, murmurs of discontent have already begun to cast a shadow over his attempts to revive the club.

On Tuesday night, The Mirror reported that players are unimpressed with Rangnick's training and the calibre of assistant coaches he has brought with him to England.

That he will remain in place only until the end of the current campaign is said to have further weakened his position.
