Welcome to the United On My Mind daily round-up, where we take a look at some of the best Manchester United stories that you might have missed.
United are reportedly in advanced talks to finally secure the first signing of Ralf Rangnick's tenure at Manchester United.
Newcastle are ready to set a Manchester United star free after reportedly offering to pay £6 million to take him on loan, as former Premier League man Gabriel Agbonlahor urges United to emulate the Eric Cantona transfer.
Kamara to become Rangnick's first transfer
Boubacar Kamara of Marseille seems to be closer to becoming Manchester United's first transfer in the Ralf Rangnick era.
According to both The Athletic and El Nacional, United are in 'advanced negotiations' to sign the young Frenchman and Barcelona target ahead of the January window.
The reports suggest a deal could be wrapped up for the opening days of the transfer window if everything goes to plan.
Ralf Rangnick is said to have given his blessing for the deal, and the German will have a big say on recruitment given he is set to move into a consultancy role when his time as interim boss comes to an end.
Opinion: I'm a massive fan of Boubacar Kamara, and I think this would be an absolute steal for Manchester United. Kamara is one of the only young DMs in Europe who has experience as a lone defensive midfielder and has the physicality, defensive awareness, and passing ability to thrive there.
Only being 22, his low price and potential could make him a Premier League great with the proper guidance.
£6 million added to that £50 million down the drain
After Philippe Lamboley, the agent to Anthony Martial, came out saying that his player was ready to leave Manchester United. Since then, not many teams have come sniffing around the Frenchman.
Without any permanent deals being offered, The Sun say Newcastle have emerged as the favourites to sign Martial, who wants to revive his career away from Old Trafford, and are willing to pay a £6m loan fee to complete the deal.
The club's new owners, desperate to avoid relegation, are ready to splash the cash on new signings in January will try to bring Martial to Newcastle.
Opinion: I'm not the biggest fan of this deal, but I can get behind it. £6million for half a season can help United recuperate and put it towards another player while essentially putting Martial in the shop window of a team where he will be the unequivocal superstar. Hopefully, the loan can bring in a permanent offer that satisfies United's demands.
Agbonlahor urges United to copy Cantona deal
Former Premier League striker and Aston Villa man Gabriel Agbonlahor has urged Manchester United to copy their Eric Cantona deal from 1992 by returning to Leeds and buying Kalvin Phillips.
Speaking to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa player said: "Phillips will go wherever is good for him and wherever is good for his career.
"Those rivalries are silly. I know Leeds and Man United have history, but it's not like it's Leeds and Bradford or Aston Villa and Birmingham City.
"It's not enough to stop him from playing Champions League football and playing at a big club like Manchester United.
"I'm 100 percent sure he would still make that move if an offer is accepted. It's not a rivalry that I think should stop a player from making the move. Eric Cantona did it, so I don't think it will stop a player from moving."
Opinion: Kalvin Phillips would be the perfect player for United. Another tremendous young midfielder, like Kamara mentioned above, Phillips can also play as a box-to-box midfielder, as we saw when he was arguably England's best player at EURO 2020.
United have a good history buying and selling with Leeds, and the 'rivalry' between them has never stopped transfers. Daniel James was the most recent transfer between the clubs in Summer 2021.
