Manchester United ignored in Champions League running as Man City named favourites

Manchester City and two of their Premier League rivals have been tipped for Champions League glory this season - but not Manchester United.

Having coasted to a third domestic title in four years - in addition to winning another Carabao Cup - Pep Guardiola and his star-studded team fell agonisingly short in their quest for elusive European honours when they were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea in Porto.

It was their first-ever appearance in a Champions League final.

After missing out in that showpiece, the Blues paid £100million for Jack Grealish - although they were unable to complete a follow-up pursuit for England captain Harry Kane.

Regardless of that, though, Guardiola and co remain favourites to reign supreme this season.

That's according to former Chelsea and Liverpool player, Glen Johnson, who also expects his two old clubs to have a big say in the competition, which continues over the next 48 hours.

On the other hand, United are a notable omission from his Premier League -heavy list of contenders.

Speaking as part of a promotion for bettingodds.com, Johnson said: "I think it's going to be one of our three big boys, either Chelsea, Liverpool or Manchester City. In the second half of the Liverpool and Manchester City match at Anfield, they looked like two of the best teams around for me at the moment.

Who do you think will win the UCL this season? Have your say in the comments section below.

"We all know what this league's like. If they all get it right on the day, then they're hard to stop.

"With the Champions League, you don't have to be the best side in the tournament. You've just got to get through each round. If you've got a gun to my head, I'd probably back Manchester City."
