Manchester United identify Leeds United defender Robin Koch as a transfer target this summer

Manchester United have been linked with Leeds United defender Robin Koch in a surprise move, reports Sky Sports Germany. The German is not expected to play next season for the Whites after their relegation to the second tier of English football.

Koch has made 73 appearances for Leeds since joining for £13 million in the summer of 2020, but an unexpected move to Old Trafford could be on the cards for the defender. The 26-year-old is an established German international, who has represented ‘Die Mannschaft’ on eight occasions since his debut in 2019.

Florian Pletterberg of Sky Sports Germany tweeted regarding the link of Koch to Manchester United. “#Koch He‘s on the shortlist of ManUtd! Loose talks took place. Confirmed. #MUFC”.

Koch’s Elland Road contract is set to expire in summer next year, so it would make sense for Leeds to want to cash in while there is interest. It is reported that Manchester United are not the only team looking at the German, with the likes of fellow Premier League big hitters such as Arsenal and Newcastle United looking at Koch.

The defender missed a fair chunk of games in a pretty rough start to life in West Yorkshire but was absent for only two league games for Leeds last season.

Speaking before Leeds’ relegation, Koch said he would wait until the summer before deciding his next move. “Towards the end of the season, and during the summer break, I will deal with it. Now, my focus is 100 per cent on our games and goals.” The German said.

Koch will not be the only player who leaves the club this summer, with a mass exodus of players potentially on the cards. The likes of Tyler Adams and Illian Meslier are just two of the other players to be linked with moves away from Elland Road since the end of the season.
