Manchester United 'identify alternative' to Kalidou Koulibaly and more transfer rumours

Manchester United have identified 'alternatives' to signing Kalidou Koulibaly as Napoli's asking price is too high, according to reports.

After a dismal end to the Premier League season which laid the challenge facing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer bare, the United boss is expected to spend big money in this summer's transfer window.

Centre-back has long been an area the club have sought to improve for multiple transfer windows to no avail, and Koulibaly is a name that has repeatedly been linked to solve United's defensive frailties.

Yet, the Independent report that the 'current asking price of over £90m is far too much' despite the star being their 'desired target' and as a result the club has identified 'alternatives.'

It's claimed that United are 'set to pursue long-standing and new targets' and the report names Leicester City's Harry Maguire, Inter's Milan Skriniar and Tottenham's Toby Alderweireld.

However, it's said that there are doubts over the Belgian's 'suitability, given his age, at 30.'

Meanwhile, centre-back doesn't appear to be the only area of the defence United are looking to improve.

According to reports, United are 'eyeing a £50m double swoop for Crystal palace pair Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Patrick van Aanholt.'

United have long been linked with Wan-Bissaka, who was named Palace's player of the year after a remarkable season at right back.

With Antonio Valencia released and Matteo Darmian's future in doubt, Solskjaer is reportedly looking for a 'long-term successor' to Ashley Young and competition for Diogo Dalot.

The other side of the defence appeared to be secure as Luke Shaw was named United's player of the season, yet The Sun report that United want 'an experienced Premier League operator to provide genuine competition' at left-back.

The Dutch international's 'energy and attacking instincts' have reportedly 'caught the eye' of Solskjaer and it's claimed that 'United reckon a deal could be done with the Eagles to take both defenders.'
