Manchester United icon Roy Keane opens up on 'best mate' Cristiano Ronaldo in cheeky exchange with Gary Neville

Manchester United hero Gary Neville joked about Roy Keane's 'best mate' Cristiano Ronaldo as the dust continues to settle on his jaw-dropping interview with Piers Morgan.

Neville and Keane both shared a dressing room with the five-time Ballon d'Or winner during his first spell at United between 2003 and 2009 - but only one might be on the Christmas card list this year. Snippets from Ronaldo's bombshell chat with Morgan continue to filter through on social media, before the full-length version hits our TV screens later this week.

It will be aired by TalkTV on Wednesday and Thursday night and last for 90 minutes in total.

As well as criticising the club in general, Neville was among several figures to be slammed by Ronaldo afterhe publicly hit out at the Portugal captain this term. It led to Ronaldo blanking the former United right-back ahead of kick-off for the Reds clash with West Ham in October.

However, fellow Sky Sports pundit Keane has so far been spared such a public humiliation from Ronaldo, having been a champion for him during what has been a season packed with plenty of headlines.

Initially taking a break from that talking point, Neville (GN) and Keane (RK) were joined by Micah Richards (MR) for a World Cup preview hosted by SkyBet. However, when taking a look at Portugal, the two United favourites were not able to help themselves from discussing the iconic former Real Madrid and Juventus superstar.

Here's what they said about Ronaldo during a seven-minute video on Twitter:

GN: "We have got Portugal [against] Cameroon. Cristiano, your mate, Roy."

RK: "My best mate."

MR: "Honestly."

RK: "If he's still there. Listen, if he's been taken off, he might have left by now..."

GN: "You have got him on speed dial, haven't you? You have got him on speed dial."

RK: "Sorry for defending an ex-teammate. You know, I'd defend you Gary, if you behave like that."

When Keane shared his thoughts that Portugal would make it to the semi-finals, they later added:

GN: "He wants that handshake."

RK: "I hope I'm pitchside when they win it and Nev's next to me."
