Manchester United icon David Beckham sends message to Ryan Reynolds and Wrexham after promotion

Manchester United legend David Beckham has congratulated Ryan Reynolds, Rob McElhenney and Wrexham on their promotion to the Football League.

After 15 years in the National League, the Red Dragons finally secured their return to League Two with a dramatic 3-1 victory over Boreham Wood on Saturday. Lee Ndlovu threatened to ruin the day when he scored after less than a minute to give the visitors the lead.

But Wrexham regrouped and were level on 15 minutes thanks to an Elliot Lee header. After the interval, the North Wales club pushed on with leading scorer Paul Mullin bagging a brace to secure the National League title with a game to spare.

Taking to Instagram after the final whistle Beckham, who owns MLS side Inter Miami, expressed his delight at Wrexham's achievement. In an expired story, the 47-year-old wrote: "This makes me very happy. What a story and what an achievement Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney."

Both of Wrexham's Hollywood owners were in attendance on Saturday evening and were visibly emotional post-match. Speaking to BT Sport on the pitch at the Racecourse Ground, Reynolds said: "I'm not sure I can actually process what happened tonight. I'm still a little speechless. People said at the beginning: 'Why Wrexham? Why Wrexham?' This is exactly why Wrexham, what is happening right now is why."

McElhenney added: "I think we can hear how it feels for the town, and that's what's most important to us. This is a moment of catharsis for them and celebration. For us to be welcomed into their community and to be welcomed into this experience has been the honour of my life."
