Manchester United hit by injury blow as key midfielder ruled out of West Ham FA Cup tie

Manchester United confirmed on Monday that star midfielder Paul Pogba will not be available for the FA Cup clash with West Ham at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening.

Pogba lasted just 39 minutes of United's Premier League 3-3 draw with Everton on Saturday before departing the field with a thigh injury.

The 27-year-old has been ruled out of Tuesday's cup tie, United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: "It's an injury that will take a few weeks to heal.”

With West Ham due to face Man Utd in the league on March 13, Pogba could well miss both the cup and league encounters between the two teams.

The loss of the World Cup winner will be a blow to United but with the likes of Fred, Scott McTominay, Nemanja Matic, and Donny van de Beek, Solskjaer is not short of options to replace the Frenchman.

Solskjsaer also provided an update on centre-back Eric Bailly saying that he was not sure the Ivorian would be fit to face the Hammers.

West Ham's chances were boosted on Monday morning when it was revealed that Tomas Soucek will be available for the cup clash.

Soucek was due to be sitting out the game, the first of a three-game suspension after receiving a late red card from Mike Dean against Fulham on Saturday evening.

However, the Czech international will now be free for selection after the red card was rescinded.

An independent regulatory commission overturned the Hammers' top-scorers ban, the second time in a week they have changed one of Mike Dean and VAR Lee Mason's decisions.

Dean sent off Southampton's Jan Bednarek after a VAR review at Old Trafford last Tuesday, but Saints were successful in appealing that decision as well.

Mason will be back in Manchester on Tuesday as the fourth official for the Hammers' cup tie and will no doubt be hoping for a less dramatic evening than his last two games involving the two teams.
