Manchester United hero Andy Cole tells Marcus Rashford he must adopt Edinson Cavani trait

Manchester United cannot rely on Marcus Rashford to score 20 or more goals a season.

That's the view of United legend Andy Cole, who believes the England international needs to take a leaf out of Edinson Cavani's book when it comes to being ruthless in front of goal.

Rashford has scored more goals so far this season than Cavani, although the former has played seven more Premier League games than his colleague.

The English forward has netted eight times in the top-flight in 23 games, while the Uruguayan striker has six goals in 16 appearances.

Rashford has plenty of experience coming in from the left-hand side of a front three but Cavani tends to operate solely down the middle of the forward trio.

Cole, who knows a thing or two about being clinical - with the former United striker scoring 121 goals in 275 appearances for the 20-time champions of England - believes Rashford is lacking something that Cavani has already shown during his brief stint at the club.

“Marcus is not going to be a clinical centre-forward like a Cavani,” the ex-United star told talkSPORT .

“Marcus will nick himself a certain amount of goals season in, season out, but he won’t be that individual you’re looking for to score 20 to 25 goals. I don’t think Marcus has got that clinical side in him.

“If you look at what Man Utd have now with Cavani; you know what you’re going to get [with him], it’s as simple as that.”

Cavani is now over halfway through a season-long contract at Old Trafford, but United have the option to trigger a 12-month extension on the deal.

However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer might be tempted to look for a younger option with the ex-Paris Saint-Germain man about to turn 34-years-old.
