Manchester United handed Victor Lindelof boost for international break

Sweden boss Janne Andersson has confirmed he will hand Victor Lindeof a rest during the upcoming international break.

The Manchester United defender sat out the midweek Champions League game against Istanbul Basaksehir, with defenders Harry Maguire and Axel Tuanzebe suffering a chastening experience in the 2-1 defeat.

Lindelof is expected to come back into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side for this weekend's league game against Everton, though he won't play in all three of Sweden's games later this month.

They have a friendly against Denmark, followed by UEFA Nations League matches against Croatia and France and Andersson listed Lindelof among the Sweden players who have a heavy workload at the moment and won't play in all three games.

Asked about Krasnodar winger Viktor Claesson, he said: “With him and many others, the load level is different. Players like Marcus Berg, Kristoffer Olsson, Emil Forsberg and Victor Lindelöf have had an almost brutal fixture list towards the end. We have to be very careful and responsive about those players when we gather together.

“Filip Helander is back, has played and done well. Victor Lindelöf is doing very well.”

The Everton clash this weekend is a huge one for under-fire Solskjaer and his players, with United having lost three of their opening six games in the Premier League this season. Lindelof impressed in recent home games against Arsenal and Chelsea and is almost certain to partner Maguire at Goodison Park.
