Manchester United handed Todd Cantwell transfer boost by James Maddison

Manchester United have been offered hope in signing Todd Cantwell this summer thanks to the success of James Maddison, according to Norwich legend David Phillips.

The former Wales international says he expects many of Norwich's promising young players to leave the club in the summer transfer window if the club does not stay in the Premier League.

United have been linked with both Cantwell and Ben Godfrey, while Max Aarons and Jamal Lewis have both also been tipped to make high-profile moves at the end of the season.

Phillips admits Norwich are going to find it hard to retain the services of their prized assets, and he believes the success of Maddison since he left the club will only inspire the current crop to follow in his footsteps.

“You have got to be very careful whenever you’re thinking of moving clubs," Phillips told the Pink’Un.

“There are five or six players at Norwich that are very much going to be in demand. Daniel will want to keep hold of all of them I’m sure but will know that if someone offers a lot of money then some will leave.

“Ultimately it will come down to what clubs come in for them and how much they are offering. But the players would be wise to look at someone like James Maddison. He left Norwich when he was 21 and you could see he was ready for it.”
