Manchester United 'handed midfield transfer target blow' and more rumours

Tottenham Hotspur have moved into pole position ahead of Manchester United to sign Bruno Fernandes, according to reports in Portugal.

Fernandes, 24, scored 32 goals in 53 appearances for Sporting Lisbon last season to assert himself among Europe's most coveted midifelders.

United are said to be keen on a move for the Portugal international, though Record claim that Spurs are in the driving seat for Fernandes' signature this summer as a replacement for Christian Eriksen after the Dane confirmed he wants to leave the club.

Meanwhile, United's pursuit of Matthijs de Ligt is said to have been blown of course by a mega-money offer from Paris Saint-Germain.

De Ligt, 19, captained Ajax to the semi-final of the Champions League last summer to catch the attention of Europe's elite.

United are keen on a move amid their first-team rebuild, while Barcelona are also intent on signing the Netherlands international.

But PSG have emerged as a serious contender by offering three times what is on the table from Barcelona, according to Diario Sport.

Elsewhere, reported United target Ryan Sessegnon is claimed to have told Fulham that he will not renew his deal at Craven Cottage.

The Guardian report that the left-back, who impressed during his maiden Premier League campaign last season, has informed the club of his wish to move to Tottenham this summer.

In other news, The Times claim that United are mulling over a move for Spurs' Eric Dier as Solskjaer looks to fill the void left by Ander Herrera's departure.

The Spain international is set to join PSG on a free transfer after failing to agree a new deal at Old Trafford, with Dier said to be considered as a potential candidate for the Reds' holding midfield role.
