Manchester United handed major injury worry ahead of Liverpool clash

Manchester United have been dealt a potentially huge injury blow ahead of their clash with Liverpool after Marcus Rashford was taken off during their FA Cup replay over Wolves.

Rashford has been in superb form for United this season, scoring 19 goals across all competitions this season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opted to leave the 22-year-old on the bench for United's FA Cup third-round replay against Wolves on Wednesday night, with rumours he was carrying a minor knock.

However, after entering the field, Rashford was forced off injured after only 15 minutes.

Whilst it appears it was a collision with a Wolves player, injuring his back, that caused the problem on Wednesday night, a muscular injury could also see him miss Sunday's match at Anfield.

Speaking ahead of kick-off, Solskjaer revealed that United were having to manage his workload, which is why he was left out of the starting XI.

"I think it is (a case of managing his workload)," Solskjaer told MUTV.

"He has played, him and Harry, have played the most football for us and David (de Gea), of course. He is a young boy so we need to look after him. Hopefully, we can see Dan back to his best in that position and Mason.

"I think both teams want to go through and we have good memories from the cups. We have got loads of games at the moment. There are a couple of positions we have changed in but we feel we have a strong team out."

Liverpool host Manchester United on Sunday, with their oldest rivals fifth in the Premier League, trailing the Reds by 27 points.
