Manchester United will be without left-back Luke Shaw and midfielder Scott McTominay for their Premier League clash with Aston Villa at Villa Park later this month through suspension.
The duo each collected their fifth bookings of the season in the second half of this evening's clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford.
First, McTominay was cautioned by referee Mike Dean just four minutes after the half time interval for clattering into Portuguese ace Daniel Podence, when the Wolves man was looking to turn away from goal, before Shaw joined him in the book less than ten minutes later, also for hacking at Podence.
Their fifth yellow cards of the campaign means that they will both be suspended for the trip to Villa Park on January 15, but will be free to face Villa in next Monday's FA Cup tie at Old Trafford, with suspensions not being carried over into domestic cup competitions.
Premier League rules state that any player that picks up five yellow cards within their club's first 19 league fixtures will be forced to serve a one-game ban.
Bruno Fernandes also found himself in the exact same position recently, picking up his fifth yellow card of the campaign in the 1-1 draw against Newcastle United the day after Boxing Day, meaning he missed the win over Burnley.
McTominay's absence against Villa will be a blow to manager Ralf Rangnick's thinking, with the Scot having started every Premier League game under his stewardship so far.
Shaw, meanwhile, will be frustrated to have ruled himself out of United's next league outing after recently forcing his way into Rangnick's plans, with Alex Telles being preferred against Crystal Palace, Norwich City and Newcastle.
